FAQs
What is the difference between a counselor, therapist and psychologist?
In the UK, these different titles largely reflect the level of training and expertise a practitioner has. Counselors and therapists often train in one approach, whereas Psychologists train in a number of different approaches. This better equips Psychologists to draw from a range of various techniques and create a more tailor made solution for more complex problems.
How many sessions will I need?
This varies significantly from person to person. In the initial session we will go through what you are struggling with, some history, and what you would like to achieve from therapy. After the first session I will be able to give you an estimate of how many sessions I think you may need. Some people need as little as 4 sessions, whilst others tend to embark on longer term therapy that continues for over a year. The beauty of private therapy is that we can allow for as much flexibility as possible.
Do you offer an initial free session?
I firmly believe that finding the right therapist for you is really important, and often recommend people chat to a few therapists before deciding on one. I offer a free 15 minute session which gives you the opportunity to experience my style and me an opportunity to determine whether I am the best person to work with your problem. If you are unsure about online therapy, it also gives you a chance to feel what it might be like to work online.
What are your fees?
Fees are charged at £100 per 50 minute session. I am registered with all of the major Insurance Companies, and fees are in line with the policies of each company. You will need to obtain pre-authorization from your provider before our first session, or the fee will not be covered. Please note that depending on your policy, there may be an excess for you to pay.
What approach do you use?
I use an integrative approach meaning I draw on a number of theories to create a bespoke intervention for each individual. I predominantly draw from systemic, narrative, solutions focused, person-centred, and interpersonal therapy. I believe that all behaviour is communication and that behaviour exists in context. I also believe that how we frame the stories of our lives shapes a narrative, which is a type of rule-set that we live by. What I particularly like about the methods that I use is the focus on distinguishing between content and process. My ultimate goal as a therapist is to give you the tools to shift the process that is keeping you stuck in order to bring about lasting change.
What do I do in an emergency?
Unfortunately I am unable to offer an emergency service. If you have an urgent need, please ring 111 to the Samaritans, or go to your local A&E.
