“Prolonged stress can leave us feeling depleted and unable to cope”

Whether you are a professional working in a fast paced environment, or a parent juggling the demands of children, prolonged stress can leave you feeling overwhelmed. When we face a high level of stress over a long period of time, our bodies end up staying in survival mode, which leads to feeling depleted and unable to cope. People who are tend to have high expectations of themselves and be high achievers are most prone to burnout. In the beginning stages it can be subtle and hard to spot, but the sooner we pay attention, the easier it is to treat. Some of the warning signs include:

Not feeling like yourself

Feeling overwhelmed easily and unable to cope with basic tasks

Anxiety

Debilitating fatigue

Feeling tearful for no apparent reason

Foggy thinking or forgetfulness

Thinking about escaping your current circumstances frequently

Difficulty falling or staying asleep

A drop in your usual standard of performance

Changes in appetite

Hello and welcome

I’m Dianne, a Clinical Psychologist and therapist working with individuals from the age of 16. My style in therapy is collaborative, engaging, and not very formal. My aim is to help you understand your challenges and give you tools to overcome them. I always tell my clients that we grow the most in the face of adversity, and that pain can present incredible opportunities for healing. One of the greatest rewards of my career is to journey with people in the process of becoming unstuck. I have highlighted some of my focus areas below, although I do work with various other difficulties. I make use of an integrative approach and draw from a range of theories, including systemic, narrative, solution-focused, person-centered, and interpersonal therapies. Enjoy having a look around, and please feel free to contact me should you have any questions.

 How does it work?

Research repeatedly shows that the relationship between therapist and client is the single most important factor in determining the outcome of therapy. You need to find a therapist who is a good fit for you. This is not only about expertise that matches your difficulty, but also about style.

Because I believe this is the cornerstone of successful therapy, I offer a free 20 minute consultation with no obligation. This gives us a chance to have an informal chat about what you are struggling with and get a feel for whether I am the best fit for you in terms of my expertise, style and approach.

If I am not the best fit for you, I will signpost you to another professional who I think would better serve your needs. If you decide to go ahead you can book in an initial assessment, after which we will talk about the way forward.

Therapy Online

I have moved my practice online exclusively, and I no longer offer face to face sessions. Whilst I was dubious about this way of working initially, I have found that working online presents fewer distractions, creates less anxiety, and offers more convenience. What tends to happen is that therapy becomes more efficient online as we get straight to the point, and I have come to prefer it as a way of working. Finding the right fit with your therapist is the most important factor in determining the outcome of therapy, and working online allows you to find the best fit without being limited to your geographical location. All you need is a private space and a good internet connection.
